Whazzit? Whazzat?

So you found your way to Planet, huh? Yes, that's the name of this planet. Whether you fell through a wormhole, woke up here one day, or clicked on strange links on the Internet, here you are on this humble website.

"Whazzit?" You may be asking yourself, "Whazzat?"

That's a pretty fair question, a site as old as Whazzit Weyrd can be kind of intimidating, but don't worry! It all breaks down pretty easily!

The idea of Whazzit originated in Dragon Riders of Pern. Never heard of it? That's okay we've wandered pretty far from that concept. To boil it down, the residents of that planet form telepathic links with dragons. Here on Whazzit we took that idea and turned it up to coconuts. We don't just form these connections with dragons, we form it with any creature that will let us! We do have traditional dragons, but also range from unicorns and gryphons to sapient armadillos and wolves that speak exclusively in the Drow language. Really it's quite a silly place.

Piqued your interest, have we? But where do you get started?

Well the best place to start is with an account. We keep OOC and IC accounts separate here, so feel free to make an account under whatever name you want us to call you by. This will get you started with access to our forums and we can answer any questions you may have! Don't hesitate to ask, even if it seems silly, we don't bite! From that point it's probably a good idea to review our Rules.

Good and familiar with those? Then you're ready to make a character! Whazzit has almost no limits on what kind of character you can play; we've been home to everything from xenomorphs to Vulcans, from sapient rats piloting machinery to simple old humans, and everything in between! Of course almost no limits doesn't mean none; while you're more than welcome to take inspiration from any universe, please don't lift a character whole-sale from any media; please keep to a roughly humanoid shape; and lastly please keep within a moderately large size. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

There are a few other considerations that you might want to make, but they are not hard and fast rules; have a means of communicating with other characters and shinies and a means of locomotion. However you want to manage those is completely up to you! If you want to keep it simple or go wild, the only limit is your own desires. Once you've settled on your idea, check what we need to know about them and get that profile up in our directory!

Now you have a character, you've posted it in the directory and written a few lines of information for your fellow RPers to use. What next?

Well the best thing to do is just jump right in! Off on the sidebar to your left you'll see a list of bondings that are currently open. If one of those catches your interest do a bit of reading to get up to speed and make a post! If you want to do something with your character first arriving on Planet, you're more than welcome to do that as well. If none of the bondings jump out at you immediately you can also join any open In-Character thread, or post your own!

You've got a character and joined a thread, but still feeling a little bit lost? Well another good place to catch up is reviewing the following Glossary!

Glossary

Big Three: The Big Three refers to the three most rare shinies on the site, they experience a bonding only once a year, and are worth more PSP than other shinies that see a more frequent rotation. The Big Three are Dragons, Gryphons, and Unicorns.

Bond: A mysterious connection between a prettyshiny and the person they have a special link to.

Bonding: A group of shinies all looking for homes, the main draw of Whazzit! A Bonding is a thread hosted by a member of the site and attended by others hoping to befriend one of the shinies to take home!

BPSP: Bonus PrettyShiny Points, a type of OOC currency.

Chase: A thread in which a Shiny is looking for a mate, lead by one shiny picking from multiple suitors.

Common: Common is a rank of shiny that is worth 1psp, making them statistically more, well, common!

George: A goblin who announces Bondings via a system of drums, kind of like morse code. How he knows about them happening in the first place is a mystery.

Mind Speech: The way that some shinies communicate, as most of them do not directly speak with their mouths.

PIF: The Planetary Illogical Field surrounds Planet, causing the least logical thing to happen at any given time on the planets surface. Such as the water turning to orange juice one day, or north and west switching places.

Planet: That's where you're at! It's the name of planet on which Whazzit Weyrd takes place.

Prefs: Aka Preferences, a list of shinies you would want to bond. May be asked for by bondholders to help them determine how to bond out shinies.

PSP: PrettyShiny Points are numbers assigned to different ranks of shinies to indicate their rarity.

Ranks: Most often Ranks refer to different types of shinies within a species. Like you can have a honey badger or a european badger, you can have an inferno demonhound or a flash demonhound. Ranks are further divided into Common, Uncommon, and Rare.

Rare: Rare shinies are those worth 3psp, and statistically the least likely to be seen in any given bonding!

Saint Keehar: One of Planet's two main deities, as much as Whazzit has anything resembling a religion. Known for being a diety of order and kindness. Presides over the holiday of Wzztmas, a time of giving and gratitude.

Shiny: Short for PrettyShiny - a (sometimes) native species of planet capable of forming Bonds with other sapient beings. All currently known species of Shiny are listed in our Databse!

Tarzi: One of Planet's two main deities, as much as Whazzit has anything resembling a religion. Known for being a diety of chaos and impulsivity.

Uncommon: An Uncommon shiny is a rank worth 2psp, placing them between Commons and Rares of their species.
