In a dark hole, beneath a dark hill,
where no wind blows
where the water is still.
A vast hoard towers, collected with great skill.
Silver and gold, gem and jewel all shining and new.
The serpent long gone, the hoard alone
Now sits a fat toad on his great throne.
The letters came in troves, all the same one singular poem written in ash and ink, smelling of fire and iron. Yet no mailer could be seen, no mailer could be found. Each day it was slipped beneath the door, the window, fluttering down chimneys appearing in cups, pots. Beneath pillows, folded in bags always there to be found and read. Perhaps some manic poet wished to be praised- or found great fun in a prank. There was no rhyme nor reason to their appearance save the smell to note their arrival.
Soon though as the days drew on, the notes ignored grew more frequent, urgent. The town passed them from one to the other puzzled by the predicament, what was so important about this poem? Why was it being thrust upon them?? The search for the write was cold and distant as the moon. No writer ever came forwards and those suspected surely would have given up by now- the amount of paper they'd need to pass through an entire town? surely that wouldn't go unnoticed.
Those who spent the time to read, to puzzle and with some comprehension finally came to a surprising discovery. If held over a flame the poem faded away leaving in its place a map of dotted line, markers and X's. A map! but to where? great treasure? The drums were sounded, the people called- who would brave this journey? Volunteers of course were selected, others had already started off on their own- but all would arrive near the same spot.
A hole.
A big one, that dug beneath the mountain side hidden away by lush jungle growth and vine, ripped away and chopped torches bared and magic held aloft the would be adventures would dip underground. The journey would stop short though. A giant stone wall with yet another poem etched in- exploring the cavern revealed little more then. . .a few frogs?? jeweled frogs! They'd hop, spring and leap attaching to the stones poetic wall for all to read.
The king awaits fast underground
Atop his great hoard with his great crown.
Bring me which I admire and fill our hearts desire.
As reward for your dire task, we lead the way at last.
Then as if the punctuate the rocky words the little jeweled frogs would drop back to the floor and leap into naturally formed bowls of water four in all to peer out with peculiar eyes. Jewels, rocks and other oddities lay inside- offerings perhaps to these small creatures? But what could you give? what would you give? Now that- was the question.
TLDR:
You have been given multiple letters with all the same poem! heating the letters have revealed a map leading to a hole underground! but hold up! your way is barred! you must offer items to the watery bowls to have the little frogs guide you along the right path.
Other info:
bring whatever companions you want! but be warned you're in a cave system underground, it's pretty large too! a dragon sized large! so companions of a larger size are applicable to go with but I'd say no more then one large otherwise you'll have a hard time all fitting in.
Feel free to send prefs whenever you want!
