Rome wasn't built in a day

Telli was proud of her cavern, down the twisting maze of her anvil's outer reaches. It was perfectly symmetrical, comfortably low ceilings, outcroppings of glittering quartz all around. Lovely. It had been a test of her independence, proof that she didn't need connections with a villager's anvil to thrive -- for all that she was starting to think it over. The profit from partnering with the right person...well, it was a pleasant thought, admittedly.
That wasn't for today, though. Time had passed so quickly; she hadn't even noticed that it was time to make her first foray into adding to the family anvil. The thought was more than a little bit daunting, not least because she'd certainly need to add a nursery alcove to protect the digglings, and she wasn't particularly proficient at delicate work. Smooth rock that wouldn't scratch delicate skin, small enough to be cozy and warm for the little ones? Out of her range of capabilities.
Well. That was what alliances were for, after all. No time like the present to get started.
Word would spread quickly; all she had to do was tell a few, and she knew proper suitors would show up at the appropriate time.
That time was, naturally, excessively early in the morning, out on the wide stone ledge in front of her cavern. Telli had ensured there would be plenty of room for anvil gatherings, clearing the ledge of rock first thing, months ago. This gathering was a rather important inauguration of her ledge, but well, that was alright.
Come on then, line up, line up, we're not going to take all day. Confident that she'd be heeded, the hammer lifted her head, eyed the selection of potential sires of her digglings with a shrewd eye. There are plenty of materials, not that you should need me to gather them for you. I suppose you'd better show me what you brought, though, or my mother will have my plates for shutters. Really, can we make this quick? I've got places to be.
Yes, those places were 'inside her cavern eating a dainty selection of feldspar and zircon, but they didn't necessarily need to know that.
